Build for Africa Hackathon Rules

1. Eligibility
  • Open to individuals and teams of up to 3 members.
  • Participants must be aged 18 or older, or have parental consent if under 18.
  • Both amateur and professional developers, designers, and innovators are welcome.
2. Registration
  • All participants must register by the specified deadline through the official hackathon website.
  • Participants must provide accurate and complete information during registration.
3. Team Formation
  • Participants can enter as individuals or form teams of up to 3 members.
  • Teams must be formed and finalized by the end of the team formation period announced during the hackathon kickoff.
4. Submission Requirements
  • Projects must align with the hackathon theme: "Exploring Artificial Intelligence for Social Impact."
  • Submissions must include a video pitch (3-5 minutes) and a functional prototype or demonstration.
  • All submissions must be original work created during the hackathon period.
5. Intellectual Property
  • Participants retain ownership of their projects and intellectual property.
  • By submitting a project, participants grant the organizers the right to use their projects for promotional purposes.
6. Judging Criteria
  • Projects will be judged based on innovation, impact, technical complexity, feasibility, and presentation.
  • The decision of the judges is final and binding.
7. Prizes
  • Prizes will be awarded to the top teams as determined by the judges. There are three prizes. One of the prizes goes to our participants affliated with our collaborator Yaba College of Technology affliates. If any Yaba College of Technology affliates were to win any of the top 2 prizes, then the next best submission from Yaba College of Technology takes the YABATECH prize.
  • Winners must comply with any legal requirements to claim their prizes.
8. Code of Conduct
  • Participants are expected to behave professionally, treat others with respect, and conduct themselves in a manner that fosters a positive and inclusive environment.
  • Harassment, discrimination, and the use of offensive content or language are strictly prohibited.
9. Confidentiality and Security
  • Participants are responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of their solutions and ensuring the security of their data and intellectual property.
  • The organizers are not responsible for any loss or theft of intellectual property.
10. Compliance with Laws
  • Participants are responsible for ensuring their projects comply with local and international laws, including but not limited to data protection and privacy laws.
11. Changes to Rules
  • The organizers reserve the right to make changes to the rules at any time. Participants will be notified of any significant changes.
Failure to adhere to these rules may result in disqualification from the hackathon.

These rules are designed to ensure a fair, respectful, and productive environment for all participants, fostering innovation and creativity within the framework of the hackathon's goals and themes.
