Empowering Innovation Through A.I for Social Good

The Build for Africa Hackathon is more than just a coding competition; it's a call to action for innovators, thinkers, and problem-solvers across the globe. With a focus on "Exploring Artificial Intelligence for Social Impact," this challenge invites participants to leverage cutting-edge A.I technologies to address some of Africa's most pressing issues.

Theme: Exploring Artificial Intelligence for Social Impact

Our world is rich in data, yet millions in Africa face challenges that hinder their health, education, economic empowerment, and environmental sustainability. The Build for Africa Hackathon challenges you to think creatively and develop A.I-driven solutions that can make a significant, positive impact on these critical areas. These application areas could cover the  health, enviroment, education, poverty alleviation, economics, financial risk management, and any of the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)

Get Started

Step 1: Register for the Hackathon
  • Sign up individually or as a team (up to 3 members) by February 21, 2024 11:59 (GMT + 1).
  • Ensure you meet the participation criteria outlined on our registration page.

Step 2: Dive into the Challenge Themes

  • Explore detailed information about the hackathon's focus areas: Health, Education, Economic Empowerment, and Environmental Sustainability.
  • Think about the problems you want to tackle and the impact your solution could have.
  • Start building your A.I based solutions.

Step 3: Prepare Your Pitch Slide and Video

  • Begin crafting a compelling video pitch (5-7 minutes) that outlines your innovative solution, the problem it addresses, and its potential impact.
  • Remember to include a brief demo or walkthrough of your project, if possible.

Step 4: Submit Your Project

  • Follow the submission guidelines provided on our website to submit your project slides and video pitch by the deadline.
  • Ensure your submission includes all required documentation and meets the format specifications. You should also add your github repository where the code is. Without submitting a Github repository, we will not judge your submissions.

Step 5: Top 10 Shortlist for Demo Day Presentation

  • After submission and initial review, the top 10 projects will be shortlisted for presentation to our judges on the Demo day. If you make the shortlist, you will receive an email notification.
  • Collaborate with your team and mentors, and prepare for the final presentation to our panel of judges.
